Waiting for the train

I know there are many who go out of their way to avoid the trains on Main Street.  They have multiplied in number since another company bought the tracks.  Now it*s not just passenger trains, but seemingly endless freights.  It means more waiting these days.  There are lots of ways to wait.  Sometimes it means paying attention to those who wait with you.

The possibility of crocus
Brings longing for spring.
The homeless man next to the Prairie Path,
Layer on layer on layer
To keep him warm,
Still clearly
Cold
As he waits for the freight train
To pass,
As we wait for the freight train
To pass.
The man carries the longing
For the possibility
Of spring.
The days grow longer in hope.
The crocus sprouts
Longing
For spring.
All of us wait
longer hopeful days
For spring.
All of us wait for the train.
