Up early to make coffee

I am more of a morning person than my beloved. Still, I am really not a morning person.

Up early
To make coffee
For my beloved,
To sit with him
Before he leaves,
Pour the coffee
Into his Bugs Bunny mug,
A dollop of cream.
Up early
To help him
Out of the haze,
Emerge into the light,
Kiss him out the door,
Then
Only then
Go back to bed.

Arriving early

I am learning new ways to navigate things like Convention.  Arriving early and establishing a nest is a new thing for me. It feels pretty good.

I arrived so early
The lobby was empty;
I reveled in the silence,
The sheer space
Before the fullness
Tomorrow.
Tonight I establish a nest
To return to
From the fullness
When the respite
Calls me.
Then and only after that
I will return
To the fullness.

Up early

Things (and people) show growth as they are made to show growth. Sometimes it's curly growth. Up early today, witnessing the curliness of things.

Up early,
I learn the curly willow
Is up early
As well,
Lit by morning sun
Shadowed curly
On the living room carpet.
Up early
I learn
Pussy willows green
In a different order
Catkins first
Then comes green.
Up early
I write this
In its particular order,
Somewhat curly
In its own right.

Timing

New meaning for the term "Low Sunday."

We arrived an hour late.
We thought
We were early.
The church was still dressed
For Lent.
The six or seven people present
Eventually told us
They had changed the time
Of worship
The week before.
We got there
For announcements
About the lawn.
After a year and a half
Without a pastor,
They have formed
A search committee.
Timing
Is everything
Or perhaps
Nothing.

Today begins again

It seems I have mastered the art of going back to bed for that extra sleep.  My beloved is winging his way to Denver to pick up our daughter, most of her worldly possessions, and a van.  I love them both. I am home, beginning the day again.

Today begins again
With sun
No gold leaves
But full sun the cat has found
On the bed upstairs.
I went back to bed
After the taxi came,
Fifteen minutes early
In the dark,
Early
A cardinal sin
For your 5 a.m. challenged soul
Especially when you stayed up
Rather later
Than you might.
Today begins again.
You are in the air
Sound asleep.
I am home.
I pay attention
To the cat
The turtle
One client this afternoon.
Today begins again.
There is sun.
