Milk ring thrower

And now I deal with the second opinion. Having a kitten helps. Playing milk ring helps.

With the kitten
I watch the birds,
Play endless games
Of milk ring.
She does not
Consider me
Disabled.
She knows me
As a good
Milk ring thrower
Who will continue
To throw it again,
From wherever I sit.
She knows
I am good
At what I do.

Kitten joy

There's something about living with a kitten.

We live with kitten joy:
Ever hopeful
Her milk ring
Will be discovered
Where she found it
Four days ago.
Last night she dropped it
In the open dish
Of parmesan cheese.
Only by chance
We opened the container
Before putting it away.
There it was.
Milk ring
Oh milk ring
Oh plastic milk ring
Such simple kitten joy.
She knew
We’d find it
Where she left it
Just as she knows
There are milk rings
Under every cushion
If we would but only
Look.

Wired

I have a friend who said he would like "the kitten experience." We are living the dream.

The kitten woke up
Completely wired.
We all watch her:
Me
My beloved
The grandfather cat.
She has bottle caps
Milk rings
Hidden
All over the house.
She finds one.
It is the most fascinating thing
She has ever seen;
She has never seen it
Before;
It is completely new.
She brings me one.
We may play fetch;
Then again
Maybe not.

Milk ring

Another in the kitten series.

I wonder if milk rings have another name. I wonder if they could be marketed as cat toys, perhaps sold in containers of six or twelve. I wonder when kittens outgrow milk rings. The grandfather cat used to store his milk rings in his food dish. Perhaps they are always useful, somehow, for something.

For want of a milk ring
The kitten finds more things
To climb,
More things
To push to the floor
The grandfather cat
To annoy
Once again
.
A new milk ring
Is a thing of joy,
A thing be carried and thrown
In the air,
To be rolled on
And rediscovered
To be taken up
Again and again
To hide in shoes
And find.
