Fishing for socks

Life with kitten. Always something new.

She fishes for socks
In the laundry basket
Adept
At pulling them out
Through the holes
One by one.
No matter how much
I squish them down
Her front legs have grown,
Her claws
Kitten-sharp
Find them
One by one.
We play
Fishing for socks
Until something else
Catches her attention.

Popcorn

I remember when my son was three and he played with a piece of gold string longer than with any of his other toys. It was his kite, his trap, and any number of other things. I am reminded of him while I watch the kitten with her singular piece of popcorn.

The kitten, with joy
Plays with one piece of popcorn
For at least an hour

Maundy Thursday 2015

Like all those familiar plays, we know how this one goes. I think we each play a different part every year. This year I am that unnamed young man in Mark who ran away naked when Jesus was arrested in the Garden. No. I have no idea what this means.

We know how this story ends
Or perhaps
Begins again.

Sun with one foot of snow

Last night I watched school after school close today because of the snow. Today is bright with sun and snow. I am glad to live in a place that closes down because of snow, not hurricanes or tsunamis. Soon I will leave for a client, drive through sun and snow.

So many places closed
So everyone may play in the snow
Or not.

Carry on

I love what I do.  It is loads of fun.  Even in the midst of difficulties and pain and sorrow and confusion, there is often laughter in the midst.  Dare I say it?  It is fun.  It is joyful.  In this spot under the altar and next to the nursery school I am having fun.  Fun seems a frivolous word.  Still...fun involves play and laughter and occasional pure silliness.

I am having
Way too much fun.
Perhaps this means
I was not having
Enough fun before.
I do not know
If there is some sort
Of fun quota
Allowed
Permitted
Perhaps required?
Is there a measure
For fun?
How will I know
When enough is enough?
I suspect
I won*t ever have to worry
About the measure.
Carry on,
Catharine,
Carry on.
Then
Carry on some more.
