Sister

Looking forward to Janie's visit!

My sister
She is coming
From her tiny house
In New Mexico.
Me
I am here
Waiting
With my walker
And tongs
And more pills
Than I have ever taken.
The ankle braces
Remind me of Forrest Gump
Run, Catharine, Run.
My sister
She is coming
From her tiny house
In New Mexico.
I am waiting.

Feet at rest

Me and the cats. We are all praying. The sun has just come out. It's amazing the difference a little sun makes

Feet at rest
On a pillow
No pain for now
Me and the cats
Me and the walker
Me and the hospital bed
Me and what seems a plethora
Of pills
Me and so many people
To pray for
While my feet
Are at rest
On a pillow
Me and the cats
And the walker
And the hospital bed
Even maybe the pills
Praying
All of us
In prayer.
We all
Each of us
Offer our prayers
In different ways.

Haikus

I woke up a lot last night. I wrote haikus in my head to go back to sleep. I remember some of them were good. At 6 a.m. I realized I forgot to take my evening pills. So I took the important ones, cleaned the cat box, and went back to sleep. The haikus have all gone to that place haikus live. I remember when my son was five or six he would stress at bedtime about possibly forgetting something. What if I don't remember? he would say. I would sing him bedtime songs.

I wrote haikus all
Night. Woke up with haikus. Now
Don’t remember one.

Hawaiian shorts

This was not meant to be an experiment, but I guess it was, sort of. I noticed the man in the Hawaiian shorts.

Today
I did not forget my pills,
Nor did I take my pills twice.
It is possible to make mistakes
In both directions.
Oddly
Both offer similar
Confusion.
Today I noticed
The man in the Hawaiian shorts
At the gym.
It brightened the day.
I did not forget my pills.
I did not take my pills twice.
It is possible
To make mistakes
In both directions.
I noticed the man
In the Hawaiian shorts.

One needful thing

Wow. One needful thing at a time. I did not write yesterday. Today I did.

This morning
There is one needful thing.
I will write.
The words themselves
Do not matter.
I notice I forgot my pills again
Last night.
So
Perhaps
Two needful things.
Oh and maybe three
If I think hard enough
Remember the pills
Notice the golden morning light
The kitten sliding across
The dining room table
Me curled up
In the soft blue blanket,
That blanket given to me the first Christmas
After seizure number one.
This morning
Only one
Maybe two
Perhaps three
Needful things.
