Feet at rest

Me and the cats. We are all praying. The sun has just come out. It's amazing the difference a little sun makes

Feet at rest
On a pillow
No pain for now
Me and the cats
Me and the walker
Me and the hospital bed
Me and what seems a plethora
Of pills
Me and so many people
To pray for
While my feet
Are at rest
On a pillow
Me and the cats
And the walker
And the hospital bed
Even maybe the pills
Praying
All of us
In prayer.
We all
Each of us
Offer our prayers
In different ways.

Mindfulness

Almost a haiku day. Attending a service today for one of the saints. Wearing my collar in his honor. Rest in peace, rise in glory, Bob.

Mindfulness:
It’s all the rage these days but
More often the calm.

Rushing

I am sitting in the church library.  At least five people have rushed around me, working to get more things done in a short amount of time.  It seems I cannot rush these days.  So I write pieces on the advantages of sitting still.  I try to convince myself.  I would still rather rush.  The sun just broke through the clouds.  I saw it.

Everyone rushes,
It seems,
Except for me.
I have learned the value
Of sitting still
Not because I chose it.
No.
It chose me.
I would still
Rather rush.
Every time
I think of one more thing to do
First I must sit still
So it may rest in the place
Made for it,
One more thing
To be done
Or not.

A quiet day

Today is a day of rest, God willing.

A quiet day.
Classes chosen
To the West.
Flowers on the front table
To remind us,
Life continues.
Sometimes it continues
The way we have planned,
Sometimes
Not.

Visitation

I love the spring migrations.  TruGreen shows up at our door every year offering to kill off all the things which we love about our yard... the dandelions and clover, the patch of some purple weed in back.  We are the neighborhood haven for bees and butterflies and migrating birds.  We are a safe spot for the migrating birds to rest.

The back yard is full
Of white crowned sparrows,
A visitation
Of sparrows.
My beloved says
They winter here
But these must be
From the South,
Migrating through.
We listen for accents
To help us know
Where they are from.
Maybe they have a song
They learned in the South.
We admire this visitation,
Wait and hope
To see the next one.

Rest

Back to my Monday routine.  This time I am writing before I go to the Clinic, so I can post here and list it on Facebook.  The Clinic is a non-Facebook space.  Good discipline, I think.  Today, after a rest, I see the light shining on a snowless landscape, listen to the cat catching his toenails in the rug.

And so
There was time to rest
Amongst snow and sister
And dog.
Now
It is time
To return to the rest
Of the world.
So I see the light
Through the window
Here.
No snow
No sister
No dog.
I see the light through the window,
Prepare for work.
Listen to my beloved
In the shower.
Here I write
In a different chair.
