Saturdays are for sleep

Everyone has different ideas.

Saturdays are for sleep
Though it seems
There must be more
To them.
I watch the hours move
On the clock
On my watch
On my numb toes.
I listen to the turtle
Bang his plate
Against the glass
Of his tank.
He believes Saturdays
Are for turtles.
He knows
There is more to the weekend
Than sleep.
Blueberries he says
Blueberries.

Roof guy

Decisions made over Saturday early morning coffee with the roof guy tromping overhead.

The roof guy showed
A half hour early
On the only morning this week
We could sleep.
There’s nothing like a ladder
Next to the bedroom window,
Foot thumps
Overhead
On a Saturday morning.

Over coffee we weigh
A new roof
Versus
New windows
Versus
Sending our last born
To college next year
Versus
Doing it
All at once.

Dry-pack daffodils

Daffodils always seem to help.

This is the time of year
For dry-pack daffodils.
They arrive
Out of water,
A bundle
Of sticks.
The arranged sticks
In my best vase
Water added
Show their color
Day by day.
My Monday sticks are now
Full bloom
On Saturday.

Monday as Saturday

Today I am newly grateful for regular things made larger by their regularity:  my beloved and daughter are asleep upstairs, the trappings of Christmas are still in place.  The regular Saturday after Christmas was cracked open, and now it has appeared on Monday.  I sit in my writing chair, coffee in hand.  I am thankful.

It feels like the Saturday
We didn’t have last week.
I sit in the chair
In front of the Christmas tree,
The stone crèche
Beside it.
In our crèche
The wise folk
Have already arrived,
The sun shines full
Through the window
And
Best of all
The whole rest of the family
Sleeps sound
Upstairs.
Soon
The daughter will  come downstairs,
Complain again
We did not pick up the house
After Christmas.
I will probably laugh.
It feels like Saturday
Normal Saturday
Except instead
It is the beginning
Of a potential week
Of Saturdays.
The tree and crèche will stay up
All week.

Saturday

I think we all needed the sleep and sheer downtime.  Of course my daughter has continued to run the weekend ragged.  I expect she will arise around noon.  Today is Saturday, glorious Saturday... the second one in a row.  I expect we skipped Friday this week, or Wednesday was Friday, or perhaps, because these days, schools get out the Tuesday night before Thanksgving, perhaps we*ve had a week of Saturdays or impending Saturdays.

I love the fact
It*s Saturday today
When it felt like Saturday
Yesterday,
Two Saturdays
In a row.
We have all slept in
Three days now.
It is relative
To the individual,
What sleeping in
Requires.
The cat and turtle
Don*t care
What day it is.
They sleep whenever
They wish.
Today I love the additional Saturday.
It is 10:30.
The cat and I
Are the only ones
Awake.
We bask in the sheer Saturday
Of it all.
