Realization

The haiku is often like a burp. It comes on me suddenly, even if it has been percolating for minutes, hours, days, months, even years. Trust the process I remind myself. Trust the process. It's all process. Write it down. Even if it's short, not fully developed.

I realize
Slowly I realize
It’s time to expand.

Classes begin on Monday

Learning new patterns. We are not in charge of the "returning to school process." Me, the cats, or the turtle. The other two are sliding through a longer process than I had anticipated. One is off getting a bike carrier, the other is vacuuming the rug for her dorm room. I am watching.

I thought it might help
To keep them company
So they might leave
Sooner.
No.
This is a repeat
Of vacation preparation.
I declare today
Is day one
Of moving back
To school.
It will happen
As it happens.
I will write
As I write.
The cats
Remain
Cats.
The turtle is active
In his turtle tank.
The plan was to leave
Today.
Classes begin on Monday.
No matter what
Classes begin on Monday.

Sent

I am a Minnesota girl. My brother coined the phrase "small comfort food," for the meals of our childhood. We learned not to expect too much. In my later adult years, I find people who are seeking "enough-ness" in their life. I have them as friends. I have them as clients. I find them hiding out in the unlikeliest of places. It seems these people are sent so we can help each other find, not just enough-ness, but also, maybe, abundance.

God sends me the folk
Who are in the process of
Finding enough-ness.

Thaw

As I ponder the fact that I am thawing, the news story of the nine blue whales who died when they were trapped in the ice off of Newfoundland hits.  I wonder what is under my ice.  I hope for smaller things than blue whales.

TROUT RIVER, Newfoundland (AP) — The 60-ton carcass of a blue whale is rotting on the shore on Canada's east coast, stinking up a town and triggering fears that it could burst.

I am thawing.
I suspect
I hope
It will be gradual.
I suspect
I hope
No one will die
In the process.
God willing
There are no blue whales
Trapped in my ice.
No dead blue whales
To land on the shore
Of tourist towns,
Spoil the season
With methane bloat.
I am thawing.
No whales please
I pray.
No dead whales.

Kitchen?

The hole in the kitchen ceiling has sparked our kitchen conversation again.  Yes, the construction folk will drywall the hole.  In the meantime, we discuss dioramas.

Yesterday they fixed
The bathroom plumbing,
Cut a large square hole
In the kitchen ceiling.
Rather hard
To ignore.
Once things get started
It*s difficult to ignore
The undone pieces,
Particularly
The large square hole
In the ceiling.
At dinner last night
We thought to make it
A PVC pipe shadow box,
Title it something creative
Like Plastic in Process,
Rather like the dioramas
We used to make
In grade school.
