For those who are commencing today

Today I think about graduating last year from Wheaton and how things don*t look now the way I thought they*d look.  So this reflection is for all who are graduating from any school or program this year, but particularly for the Wheaton College Clinical Psychology MA class of 2011.  I was privileged to witness all of you beginning your adventure in counseling.  Thank you!

Today you will commence
To begin,
To begin again
And again.
So be ready for beginning
Over and over.
Or at least know
That others have begun
Over and over
Before you,
And more than survived.
This is an end as well.
Hug your neighbors.
Hug the person who brought you tea
In class.
Take a lot of pictures.
If you don*t have a camera
Use your cell phone
or
Record them in your mind
Perhaps in a poem.
Hug the ones who have been
Your neighbors
For two years,
The ones you will see,
The ones you won*t see
But only think about and pray
They are doing well.

Today you will commence to begin
And begin again.
Today remember that you,
Just as you are,
Are a blessing to the world,
A full and complete blessing to the world
No matter what.
